Self-criticism is an art not many are qualified to practice. – Joyce Carol Oates
Hmmm, this is a ponderous quote. There are a couple interpretations.
I might modify it to:
“Self-criticism is an art not many are willing to practice.”

That’s an interesting concept: modifying a quote
you must have access to a bloomberg

LOL… and I thought that he was reading a new book each day
Yep. Among other things.
actually, that was not meant to be a flame, just an observation that I saw the same quote this morning. Leave it to SAC to see some sarcasm in it. I’m perfect, so I see no reason to self-critique.
I didn’t take it as a flame. SAC and I go way back, so no harm done.
Tom,
I like the modified quote - very timely as well: 15 years ago today the Berlin Wall came down - the Communist party that had been governing for the 40 years prior to that certainly wasn’t willing to practice self-criticism.
Now, back to the regular triathlon program…

The wall coming down is very near and dear to my heart. It was the big day when we could sit back and say “We Won”.
I did watch the documentary on the History Channel last night with some nervousness however as they said there would be “secrets declassified”.
As it was, they’re really weren’t.
I don’t want throw flames here but I’d like to rephrase the “we won” into “democracy won” and “the people living on either side of the wall won”… It is also a pretty impressive case study of history when there was practically no violence leading up to the “liberation” and neither during days, months and years to follow -(note that I grew up in Germany and do not have enough life experience of the really cold days of the cold war…)
