Quintana Roo Tequilo vs. Cervelo P2K

Im looking at both bikes pretty seriously. I can get a pretty incredible deal on the QR – around $1400 complete. The Cervelo is a new '04 that I can get for $1700 (not a bad price either).

The $300 difference is not a deal breaker but if money was completely unimportant Id go for the Cervelo. Not a strong cyclist yet, doing 1/2 vineman end of month.

Ill probably make the purchase tomorrow. Any/all points of views and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

I ride an '04 P2k…I love it. Only complaint I have is the paint chips real easliy…pisses me off!!

How funny you say that about the paint chipping… thats everyone’s complaint! Do you think $1700 is an unbelievable deal for an '04 or just a good deal?

how’s it built up? I paid 1900 for full Ultegra (minus the cervelo brakes they screwed me over with…) The bike also came with stock Velomax Vista Wheels…they aren’t bad, and I really have no complaints with the bike (minus that darned paint).

If you can afford it, I would say go for it…

If memory serves me right, I think the Tequilo now has the carbon seat stays ala Caliente…kinda makes it nicer on longer rides, especially if you can upgrade the seatpost to carbon also.
With that in mind ,plus its 300.00 less…hmmm.

I like both bikes, but, with the savings on the QR…+ 100.00 you’re into a Renn disc.

let us know what you end up with.

Purely from a paint perspective, I’d go QR.

Frame design, I’d say it’s a toss-up.

Components spec, possibly a nod towards Cervelo on this one.

All-in-all for $300 less I’d probably just go with the QR. Don’t by a bike on numbers, by the one that sings to you.

It is a no brainer. Both are faster than your road bike. But, the paint on the Cervelo chips easily and Ze Gopa prefers the QR colors. And you have 300 left for nearly the cost of a Renn disk.

Make sure you do a comparison on the components. Very easy to have a $300 discrepancy in components.

THANKS for the input…very helpful. I demo-ed the P3 carbon up in Coer d Alele a few weeks ago watching my buddy do the Ironman up there. Right then and there I swore I would get a Cervelo if I could swing it.

Took both out for longer rides on Sat. Im pretty naive to carbon this and that but have to say, just felt like the QR had a much better ride for me. Yes, Swordfish, the Tequilo has carbon seat stays. Frames, components, etc…pretty similar overall. The place discounted the QR (again!) for a total of $500 off … so ended up buying it and a bunch of other crap…they ended up doing well with me. Took it out on a ride up PCH today. I have never been on a bike this fast before. It’s unreal. Maybe next year upgrade to a P3 but for now Im really loving this bike.

Thanks again.

Congratualtions on your new bike. I have a 2003 (severely upgraded) Tequilo and I have been very happy with it. They are much nicer this year than they were in 2003, so I’m sure it will keep you happy for quite a while.
