Quick Poll: Workouts after IM (USA)

For those who did/have done and IM and particularly those who did IM USA last weekend … have you worked out yet? If so, how much, if not when do you plan to do so?

so far i have done two 10 k runs and a 3 k swim. First run was Tuesday. Will Run and swim tomorrow and do 90 on the bike Saturday.

I haven’t done nothing so far… Will start training next week a 6 weeks training plan for a Marathon. (only running, no swimming and no biking)

Here’s the volume per week (distance and time)
Week 1 - 25 miles (3h30)
Week 2 - 38 miles (5h00)
Week 3 - 52 miles (7h00)
Week 4 - 59 miles (8h00)
Week 5 - 46 miles (6h00)
Week 6 - Race (26 miles) (3h00) + 28 miles (4h00)

after AZ, I took a whole week off, then 3hours the next week then slowly back at it. it took me a while to recover. I think more mentally than physically.

After LP last year I took two full weeks off. Just active recovery with family. After that it was just non-structured stuff for two months. Learned how to MTB did a very relaxed century…etc. Like someone already said, after about 3-4 weeks it was mostly just a mental thing for me. Getting up at 5:00 am to go to the pool just didn’t seem to be appealing until around October.

That’s never appealing period. I go at lunch.

When I was younger, Craig Walton used to swim with our USS swim team in San Diego. I remember him showing up to monday morning swim practice the day after the Ironman (full) California. Earlier this year, I saw Tim Deboom (who had taken 1st at that race, passing walton on the run) and was discussing recovery. I mentioned that story about walton training the day after. Tim said something to the effect of, “he was really stupid to be back at it that soon.” He said he takes an entire week off following an Ironman. He does no swimming, biking, or running. Not sure how much this helps, but realize that you need to recover.

Monday - stumbled into the village to pig out on ice cream.

Tuesday - 10 hours of driving

Weds - Hour of easy Yoga

Thu - 30 min swim (morn); 45 min bike (afternoon)

Plan to swim again today and get a massage this afternoon

I hit the bike for the first time on Thursday for about a 17.5 mile ride that actually went rather well. Nothing before then.

Mirror Lake was full of swimmers on Monday, and they had a good turnout for the Monday triathlon.

Nothing Yet, I will do some easier workouts this weekend, and then ramp up next week. The days off felt good, but I am getting a little stir crazy…I just wrote my training plan for the rest of the summer though and it is looking…fun

After Lanzarote, I took 1 month off. I mean 1 month without organised training. Went swimming, biking, running, etc whenever I feel like it but never too long neither too intense.

I swam a loop Mon/Tues/Wed., only because I don’t get very many opportunities to swim in such a clean, beautiful lake. There were several IM’ers out there on those days…

I’m taking a full week off from running and the only biking I’m doing is commuting to work. I plan on picking it back up next week.
