Microsoft is about to slash 5000 jobs. perhaps the chosen one can do some of his magic and prevent this from happening. Or maybe just another speech full of 'Hope", “Change”, “Believe” should be sufficient for the newly unemployed.
Or, Microsoft could do something…
I think Microsoft IS doing something. ![]()

Yup. Lots of fat that can be trimmed from the company. Cut way back on contract employees. Unfortunately that meant my contract was cancelled because of a 40% budget cut in my department. Low performers will likely be the worst hit.
But, it is the right thing to do. The amount of cash spent there is nuts.

Is this your way of reminding us that GW screwed us all and is now sitting back on his ranch fat and happy? If so, it’s working.
I’m just waiting patiently for a little “Hope”, “Change” and “Believe” magic to come our way.
That’s the way it’s SUPPOSED to happen. Sadly for some of us we get the raw end of the deal. On the bright side it often opens up new opportunities and people get really innovative when times are tough. In the end that “New innovation” gets things rolling so we all can be fat and happy again ![]()
Good luck and sorry to hear you got cut. If you could program a CNC and build gages I might offer you a poor paying job, with little benefits in a crappy facility ![]()

maybe we can give them some bailout cash so people wont lose their jobs???
Bailout? Uh…they made a PROFIT of over $4 Billion…throwing another 5000 out on the street under these circumstances is pitiful.
I don’t know about them, but you ceasing to start idiotic threads would be sufficient for me.
Since when Obama should worry about bloody Microsoft? Does MS belong to the Gov? Do they want a bailout of some sort? Where do you think you live? Fucking France?
Microsoft, does anyone even still use their software:

No problem, chainpin has you covered:
To compile OpenOffice.org for windows, you need Visual Studio. A Microsoft product.
Or you could just download the binaries. No need to compile unless you want the bleeding edge development build stuff.
That’s right. I was more trying to point out a product besides Office, for which Microsoft does deserve recognition.
I just downloaded openoffice and will have to compare it with Google Apps and Office, but really for hardcore modeling, etc., I don’t think I could live without excel.
try lotus symphony to replace excel - equally capable, though you may have to modify your macro programming skills a bit - been working with it for two months now - very good so far - and freeware/open source
.
Symphony is not open source. It is also only Free as in beer but not as in freedom.
It is actually built on top of the OpenOffice.org’s engine. Symphony is an interesting case of utilizing open-source licenses. OpenOffice was released by Sun under two different licenses: GNU and the Sun’s open source license. IBM invoked the latter for Symphony, since GNU requires any future changes to the code to be also released under its terms. This way, they used the code for free without having to make their additions available; Something in contrast to the usual attitude of IBM, as perhaps the biggest code contributor. This probably indicates that they have some serious plans for Symphony.
