Mostly a mountain biker, first IM. Swim was slow, as expected, at 1:33 and change. T1 was funny, because I had not really run through the directions (figuring it's a long race and I won't hurry) I felt and looked like an idiot..my girlfriend and I got a good laugh after. Out in 6:51. Bike was nice, kind of lagged in the middle, but finished allowing myself to work a little, in just under 6:09. T2...I don't remember, but out in 5:35 Run was pretty uneventful except forefoot blisters, semi-cramping left calf, and the decision to HTFU and continue on without addressing them so as to keep pace to finish <12. Run time just under 4:03 Total 11:57:44. Woohoo, the pain paid off.
Anywho, I'm wondering what kind of recovery, and injury susceptability you guys have encountered with IM. I've really only had one sports injury ever and it did occur in the 30 day window after my only marathon (24 years ago!), so I'm a little paranoid about this period after the race. I felt I went pretty easy all day, and feel great now, except for the forefoot blisters in process of healing up. Advice on how hard to go over the next week, or month?
i would take it easy for the 1st week… max ride 90 minutes / max run 60 minutes…all at easy pace. if you want to ride a little more and swim a little more than 2nd week go ahead but dont run to much and do everything at easy pace for at least 2 weeks. just my opinion…
Dude, no mention of throwing up, cramping, falling off your bike, passing out, ambulance rides, hospital stays, 17:05 finish? Ok, its sarcasm but I’m getting a little tired of the near death Ironman RRs.
Sounds like you had a great first IM race, congratulations!
