I’m getting a click, click, click out of my BB (I can actually ‘feel’ it with my foot) as I come over the top of the pedal stroke on th drive side of my campy road bike. Is this the BB gone bad? I tightend the hell out of all the chainring bolts and the bolts for the cranck arms, but it did not make a difference. Also the noise seems to come and go sometimes three clicks and sometimes one. I’m going to be doing alot of riding and climbing over the next two weeks and dont want to have the BB freeze or fall apart 30 miles away from home in the middle of nowhere.
Also what is the best bike shop in the Traverse City Area to have this looked at and possibly replaced?
I have a Cervelo P2sl and had a very similar problem. Turns out, pretty much anything that is wrong with that bike sounds and feels like the BB. The first time I had it happen it was the seatpost, the second time it was the rear casette.
But make sure to check the seatpost before you get too worried. They said that’s REALLY common. I SWORE it was the BB. Happened at the same point in the pedal stroke every time and I could feel the click.
Like others have said, lots of things can cause this. First take the chain off the front chainrings and spin the cranks by hand. If you dont feel any looseness or roughness then the BB is likely fine. Do you use a computer with cadence? If so check how close the crankarm magnet is to the sensor. Under load it can flex and brush, causing what you describe.
