I am looking to replace my aerobars: I have got my short list down to 3 the USE tula’s, Hed’s new 2 peice ones (though I am waiting to see what the ones with the intigrated brakes come out like), or Vision techs one piece bars.
The USE bars are suppose to be very aero with there inline brakes and I have seen a few on the UK time trial scene, and the general opinion is that they are just like braking with an MTB bar. Looks fairly adjustable.
I noticed a lot of the pro’s at the Tour used the vision tech - I am not sure if all of them were sponsoured to do so. The extension seem very narrow which shoud be fine as I have my bars quite narrow anyway. Also the cow horns seem pretty slim so I am guessing it is very aero. Seems the least adjustable - cannot change stem.
The Hed system looks to be the most adjustable - I don’t know if this compremises the aero dynamics over the one piece system but I guess if it allows you to fine the best position it could end up being the fastests.
Any feed back on any of these system would be great.
I have Hed’s two piece system and it is very nice. There older one piece system they admit may be more aerodynamic. But as you said it’s got a lot of adjustability. It was an easy choice for me because I already had the Hed Cliplites. In general the aerodynamic difference between the three is fairly minimal I’m guessing. You are probably paying a huge premium for the USE for not much gain.
If the Vision fits it’s about half the price of the Hed and probably worth it. If it doesn’t fit, well then you paid $300 for an aero bar that isn’t comfortable.
I have been using Vision for the last 3 years and wanted to go with the R bend set up but just could not commit. I had narrowed my list to just adding the R bends to my existing Vision base bar or changing the bars completely. If I changed bars, I had 2 on my list that I really liked but was hesitant becuase of the cost to make the switch. Making the switch is kind of a blind faith and a lot of money on the line!! The 2 on my list were the Easton one piece and Planet X bars. This weekend at IM LOU is finally saw the Planet X bars up close and personal and I was thouroughly impressed. They looked great and are fully adjustable. I was so impressed, I placed an order on Monday and they were delivered today and installed. I imagine it will take a few weeks of riding to dial them in but so far so good.
Does anyone know where to get the leather type bar tape with the white looking thread on it?? I think this combo would set off the black and white color of my bike.
I have recently gone from using the Vision’s to a set of Tula’s. HEAPS of adjustment, ALOT lighter nad they look sick. Breaking isn’t an issue, you just have to re-program your brain to where the brakes are!!
