Questions? About T1 and T2 as well as training!

Ok so im pretty new to this sport, the yr of 07 i did one sprint distance race 08 i did 3 sprints and 1 half iron! im doing Lake placid this yr, and one of my biggest problems is im not a big trainer, and i def have a issue with training by heart rate im 8 weeks into my training and it has begone to bore me b/c of the low intensity training, any tips on how to stay focused as for i have a VERY lofty goal of 12hrs and if i dont hit for any sort of body failing type reason, im might freak out! Im doing a interme plan out of Going Long, and am having a elite help me, who is worried that im gonna burn out b/c there are a few races that im doing before Placid that i want to do well in! So any tips on how to get to 12hr goal, staying focused and not burning out!
Now ? #2 is transitions im looking to pr every sprint i do this year by 5 mins, i lose a good amt of time in my transitions and could stand to shave 2.5 mins in trans times alone, any ideas hints tips suggestions! Thanks!!!

For motivation, training in a group helps a lot. Training groups let you spend quality time with like-minded individuals and they (often times) give you rabbits to chase and let you train outside of your comfort zone. However, I find that motivation comes from within. Why do you like the sport? What makes you want to compete to begin with? If you know the answer to that, then you have your motivation. I personally found it very motivating to stop training like a triathlete and start training like a single sport athlete. I spent a few months last fall as a swimmer. I sacrificed running and cycling to hit the pool 7 to 8 times a week. I started paying attention to competitive swimming. I totally immersed myself in that ‘world’. I’ve done the same thing with cycling and running. Each time, I come out of it with a better understanding and deeper appreciation for the sport. I love triathlon because it has enough variety that you don’t get bored doing the same thing all the time, but I also think that newcomers to the sport miss out a lot because they are spread so thin, they never get to feel the joy that comes with dedication to one discipline. That may have been a little deep and probably not all that useful. Sorry.

as for transitions…

T1: practice the flying mount like crazy.
Have helmet and sunglasses on the bike, ready to go so you can just grab and go

T2: practice the flying dismount (at speed)
Speed laces on the shoes
Don’t stop running from the time you hit the ground on dismount until you cross the finish line

Just watch some ITU races if you want to see how it’s done

not to deep at all as for i ran 400 hurdles in college so i deff get what you mean! as for why i race, just that i love the excitement of race if i could i would race everyday of the week i do love to race!!!
Transitions im am using speed laces, i alway swim in a wet suit to be honest id prolly drownd w/out one! flying mount i have not gotten yet, ive been able to dismount but never mount with my shoe clipped in already. I do love to train with people, problem now is i live in upstate NY im getting cabin fever! Oh and far as having rabbits to chase i hear thats a good thing and a bad thing b/c you are supposed to stay in those h/r zone you could poten overtrain, what are your thoughts on that!

Oh Dear! Soybean, where on earth did you go to school?

Since you swim in a wetsuit, start the swim with your cycling outfit on underneath. Don’t change clothes during a transition, only shoes.

You need to listen to your coach and train with low intensity. It’s a discipline you need if you want to do your best. If you want to race well, you’ve got to have a will of iron all year. Sometimes that iron will keeps you from caving in to boredom, or giving in to the alarm clock, or keeps you going easy when you want to go hard.

Oh i forgot to apologize in advance for my very poor typing skills, i only communicate via text message so everything gets shortened with abbreives SRY fellow triahthletes!!! LOLOLOLO!

i have been hanging on to her every word, indeed! Shes an amazing athlete, 1st yr of DUs she was a world champion so i do listen! Im am wearing my race suit under my w/s, and as far as the low intensity, i have been train by h/r but i normally train LT, so its hard and i feel as if im under training sometimes!

Just stay the course and you will be surprised to find out how little intensity you need relative to volume.
But when coach says to work hard, bust your balls.

ok gr8, wellthanks for your avie, sometimes its just gotta be drilled in!!! LOL!
