Question: Will Sram Quark s975 bb30 / pf+30 fit Cervelo p2?

Will Sram Quark s975 bb30 / pf+30 fit Cervelo p2?

I have the opportunity to buy this set and the ad says it does not include the BB which seems like a contradiction since it lists bb30 pf+30 in the description. I’m a novice when it comes to upgrading parts and compatibility. I have a 2011 Cervelo p2 and I’m looking to add this power meter and crank. Will it fit my Cervelo P2 and if do will I need to buy an additional bottom bracket?

Thanks for the help!

Yes it will. You will need Rotor BSA30 adapters and you’ll have to take of the DS spacer and the NDS preload adjuster. You’ll then need a pack of BB30 nylon washers + wave washer to make it fit.

Magnet placement might be a bit tricky.

I’m using this setup on my 2012 P3C.

Enjoy.

Rich.

Edit: just noticed the PF+30 bit, don’t really know what that’s about. What is that on the DS of the spindle, is it just a cap?

Thanks Rich. I believe it is just a cap but all I have are the pictures right now.

Thanks for the help!

No. It won’t work. Your frame is made with threaded bottom bracket. You need to run a GXP Quarq. Trust me, I have a 2012 Cervelo P2 with the same bottom bracket, along with a 2012 Cervelo S2 with the same bottom bracket, and a 2012 Cervelo R3 Team with a BBright bottom bracket. The spindle on a BB30 crankset is shorter and a larger diameter (30mm). You can put a GXP Quarq on a BBright/BB30 frame with adapters to reduce the diameter of the bottom bracket bearings, but you can’t go the other way. I run my GXP Quarq Riken on all of my bikes (adapters on the R3).

Another helpful hint. Stay away from the S975. They had water-tightness issues. Many, many, many people suffered from this.

kmill23 do a search- It will work with a BSA30 BB. Many folks have done it, I’ve got a BB30 Quarq on my 2009 P3 with the BSA30 BB.

The Quarq BB30 is longer than a standard BB30 crank and with the BSA30 it will work.

+1 on the BSA30 bottom bracket will work. did the same thing on my old Felt B16 I had and it worked great. as others said, just play around with the wave washer and the small plastic shims to get the chain line right.

I guess I stand corrected.

My advice about the older Quarq still stands. Avoid it.

A “normal” BB30 crankset wouldn’t work because of the shorter spindle length, one of the “benefits” being reduced Q factor and therefore stance width. But the Quarq BB30 cranks have a longer spindle which is made to fit a narrow BB30 shell by way of a ~11mm DS spacer and a similar width preload adjuster on the NDS. Remove these, add some narrow spacers and a wave washer and it will work in a regular BSA frame. This is possible because the 30mm diameter spindle can still fit through the shell, and the bearings sit outside the frame anyway.

Not sure about the water ingress part, but I did have issues with my older S975 where the zero offset would drift too much throughout a session. A small amount of drift is normal, but mine was well above the accepted tolerance and resulted in innacuracy. I was careful buying 2nd hand to make sure that it was <2 years old so that I could avail myself of the excellent Quarq warranty, which isn’t limited to the original owner, and they were kind enough to replace the spider (the important bit) with a Riken. Happiness.

But based on my own very small sample size, I would think twice before buying an older S975 2nd hand, unless there was some warranty left over.

Good luck,
Rich.

As others have mentioned I would avoid the s975 if possible. I am not sure how good of a deal you are getting but if you already made the decision to invest in a power meter I would look to get a used version of their newer models. My s975 died do to water issues. My friends with the same model had similar issues.

I highly recommend Quarq but recommend their newer models.
