I rode a 52cm Talon that I am interested in buying for training, as I ride a 55 Cervelo P3 for competition. The bike seemed to fit well with one exception, when you turn the front wheel very hard in one or the other direction, if my foot is forward on the crank, my toe will just touch the end of the wheel. Is this something to be worried about. thanks for your time…
It will never happen when riding (have you already tried cornering at any speed by doing that kind of move ???).
If the bike fits you, then this would not be somehting that should prevent you from buying it.
Same thing happens on all of my bikes since I ride 47-50cm frames. Like the other post, it probably will never happen when you ride. I only hit it when I am trackstanding or messing around going really slow. You’ll never turn the wheel enough under typical circumstances to ever hit your foot, or least it’s never happened to me.
I would not worry about it and buy the 55cm, although these sizes seem to run big…
flytri,
Whenever cornering with any speed, you probably are placing the pedal on the outside of the turn in the 6 o’clock position with your weight on it to maximize cornering traction. If you are then making an opposite turn immediately after, you are bringing the front wheel back through the neutral position and as you turn the wheel you turn your cranks to prepare to put the opposite foot down on the outside of the turn you are preparing to begin.
As Diablo and stltricoach have indicated, unless you have significant toe overlap, this will never be an issue unless you are standing still or at extremely low speed.
Thanks for the advice guys…
