Question for Zipp Vuka owners

Do the hand grips on the integrated Vuka bar have enough space for your hand/fingers when climbing, accelerating, braking? They look too short, enough that the pinky finger would get stuck under the wing of the bar.

I have both the Vuka Aero and the Vuka clips and, while they are different beasts, neithr has any deal-killer drawbacks for me…Tha said, the clips have a TON of length from the wing to the brake pod, however the extensions cannot be seperated very far…The Aero, while a smaller brake pod, has quite a bit of room and you can grip it like you would a brake hood.

depends on a couple of things:

  1. the size of your hands
  2. the thickness of your fingers
  3. how you grip the bar

For me, with average size hands (fit Large Pearl Izumi gloves) they’re great (yes, I am selling a set in the classifieds). The really nice thing about these bars is how the head of the brake pod feels like a road bike brake hood unlike any other bar out there. Also, when I climb I don’t grip the bars, I took some advice from Paulo Bettini: put your hands on the hoods lightly and relax your fingers, like you’re getting ready to play the piano. For accelerations, well, I’m not sprinting for any lines as pros do in TT finishes, but never ‘noticed’ the bars when out of the saddle blowing through a yellow light.

The handgrips are really nice. Dan actually commented that it’s one of the nicer pursuit positions out there. If you actually measure the relative position of the grips on the Vuka in comparison with a road bike grip on your DoubleTap/STI/Ergopower position, it’s very similar. If you take a bar like the CarbonX or VisionTech, the grips are WAY further out.

I thought it looked a bit short too, but when you actually ride the Vuka, it’s very comfortable. It’s just deception because of appearance, especially because the base-wing is so thick.

hope you dont mind my jumping in…what brake levers are u using with the vuka bull? i had a devilish/unsuccessful time geting SRAM and TL720 levers in there. there is some lip/edge inside that bullhorn that i think forces one to use a brake lever with a small compression/expansion plug.

what are you using on the vuka bull?

I love the vukas I have kinda fat hands and fingers and they are awesome. My hand just craddles right in there I never even think about it ,it just feels “right”

I use the Zipp levers and since I have the Vuka aero on my P2C race bike, I like them ALOT on the bull/clip combo I have on my P2SL training bike.

I thought about using the SRAM, but when I was told by SRAM, Zipp, and Slowtwitch Greek Chorus that I would have to file away portions of the SRAM lever to get it to fit, I was happy to wait a month for the Zipp levers to come to market. This was in December and I think they are now in stock everywhere.
