Wanted to know your thoughts on a workout consisting of swim bike swim bike- The actual intensity and components of the workout would vary.
I am wondering if you coaches would put this type of aworkout into a program for an athlete preparing for a half or full Ironman and also your thoughts on this type of a workout.
I know for a fact that ITU athletes do this workout a few times leading into there events ( maybe 2-5 weeks out ) but for your average athlete ( age grouper ) I don’t know.
Thanks.
Sure why not. Identify an problem/goal and you can come up with a number of workouts to get it to work.
Are you doing it on a trainer on the pool deck?
Assuming you can get it on the pool deck, I would make it one of a very high intensity sessions. Short sessions but super intense. I doubt you’ll want to be on the trainer for more than 15-20 mins at a time. So again, figure out the goal, and work backwards to getting there.
When I do “bricks” for some workouts, I’ll make guys do a 1 mile all out intensity to simulate the swim conditions before they are getting on the bike part. etc. There are lots of ways to build programs.
