Question for those who use Infinit Nutrition

Let’s say I’m shooting for 300 calories per hour racing 70.3 and I create a custom formula that fits my calorie goal, while still maintaining Infinit’s “Green” Osmolality rating… If I mix my formula in a bottle with 24 oz water, is that really all the water I’ll need to aid in digestion? As opposed to my current plan of about 200 calories of perform + 1 gel and lots of water to wash it all down? What’s so different about the consistency of their product versus the other leading sports drinks that are out there?

Not sure I can help directly on this but I’ve been using Infinit for my long workouts for a couple months now -

The ‘consistency’ isn’t any different. You do use two rather large scoops, so definitely way more product goes into the same amount of water vs others I use (Skratch). You can also tell there is a higher sodium content, but not in a bad way at all. Just notice it more.

The two scoops (roughly 280 cals I think - its the GO FAR formula) dissolves very well and I’ve had no issues. So far I enjoy it, but I am racing my first 70.3 in August, so I’ll know better then.

Yes. You will notice that the “fluidity”, after you’ve mixed in the powder, is the same as water or Gatorade. In other words, it doesn’t “paste” up once you add in the powder.

My formula is a touch above 300 calories. During long course racing and training I’ll concentrate a bottle with 4 or 6 scoops. Mix it with water in my aero bottle when needed and supplement with water or even some perform. Even at 310ish calories I find myself starving after 2-3 hours and have been able to handle additional perform or their napalm. I have never felt like I needed the water to aid digestion, but I am a moderate sweater and live in Georgia and there is no way I could get by on 24oz of fluid per hour.

I started using Infinit last year to prepare for my first full. Gatorade + gels rots my stomach as experienced on multiple marathons. Finally determined it was the GI distress from stomach shutting down. I’m a big guy (225#) and burn 860kcals/hr. So it’s a challenge for me to balance getting enough carbs and shutting down my digestive system.
I trained well with Infinit last year. Did the custom formula as well. My custom formula is nearly identical to the prepared “Go Long” pre packaged mix which is $15 cheaper. So you might want to make sure if you need custom.
I would highly recommend training with the mix and if you’re prone to GI distress, err on the side of less powder for your race.
I recommend 24oz per hour of Infinit (two scoops) and supplement carbs with gels, wash those down gels with water picked up on the bike course to cut the concentration of the gel in your digestive system. For additional hydration on the bike (only for the 140.6), I put the powder in snack Ziploc bags and bit them open to pour into my water container as I picked up a new water bottle on course. Or (70.3) you could start with two bottles of Infinit and the last bottle pick up water or sports drink on course. I also found I start to prefer water towards the end.
On the run I switch to Gu Brew and mix per instructions. I found this also helps on my long runs over Gatorade. G-ade is fine for me if less than 3 hour events and if I cut the concentration. However that also reduces carb intake .
I just finished Muncie HIM and I was too aggressive at the start of the bike with getting in carbs. 16oz Infinit @ T1, 1 gel @ 45 minutes and another 18oz Infinit spaced over first 45 minutes of the bike. I paid for that 15 miles into the bike and for the rest of the race with cramping and inability to stay in the aerobars. That’s why I’d recommend going a little on the light side if you’re prone to GI distress.

I just started using Infinit about a month and a half ago, but I have just been going with about a bottle of Infinit per hour and nothing else. It keeps everything simple, and I haven’t had any issues. I’ve never been a heavy drinker and the Canadian summer hasn’t been that hot. I don’t think extra water would hurt.

You are around my mix strength. Here is what I would recommend and have done for many HIM’s and IM’s (use 2 bottles):

5 scoops in one 24 oz bottle for 750 calories, assuming carb only mix = 188 grams

I try to keep under 10% for a HIM to keep absorption high with intensity of the bike in HIM and maintaining hydration as well.

Soooo, during the course of a 2.5 - 3 hour bike you would take in ~ 1880mL (~64oz) or ~3 - 20-24 oz bottles of water with Infinit mix (you have some water in the mix)

This will vary with heat and time. Fast course and under 2.5; I usually can’t get in 3 bottles and often have a little of the mix left.

General rules:
1 mouthful of mix to 2 hits of water
Spread it out evenly as possible
Tolerance for mix will go up with relatively lower HR (if hilly course more mix on the downhills)
If gut starts to hurt or bloated, drink water only to dilute
Heat will be a factor as well; blood shunts away from gut slowing digestion

Cheers!

To understand what’s different about Infinit and other drinks read the OSMOLALITY info on the Infinit web page:

It works for me, and I used it for IMFL, both during training and the race. I only used Infinit on the bike, because I hate to run with a bottle of any kind.
I’m smaller than you (and maybe older), so I only go for about 280 cals per hour. I use a custom blend primarily so I can dial the flavor (lemon-lime) down close to zero.
For racing I mix one or two 24 oz. bottles at triple strength (6 scoops) and fill with water. HIM is one bottle and IM is two (second bottle goes in the SNB).
Every 15 minutes I sip off the Infinit bottle (downtube) and chase it with a large slug of water from the BTA, which I refill at the aid stations. I ball-park judge and try to drink a 1/3 of the Infinit mix per hour. I also supplement with water based on thirst. On a hot day I will also supplement with Salt Stick caps at 1-2 per hour. That’s it on the bike.
On the run I grab gels in T2. 2 for HIM, 3 for IM, and supplement with other stuff if needed.
I started using it in training. I did find that it took me a few long training sessions to get used to it. By my last two months prior to the race I was convinced that Infinit was the way. IMFL was the first IM of 5 that I had absolutely NO digestive issues. It scared me some, as I was waiting for the wheels to fall off - never happened, made the podium!

Appreciate the responses!

How do you know my stats lol? I like the idea of using a concentrated bottle to supplement with water for long distance. Guess it’s worth a shot! Any idea what the caffeine content is for each hash mark on the slider?

Most welcome!

I guessed. Your OP indicated you wanted 300 per hour. At 145 lbs. I can’t metabolize that amount. As far as age, at 61 I’m older than over 95% (or more) of the experts on ST. Easy guess there.

Call the Infinit people and ask them about the caffeine. They’re easy to talk to. …or email them.
