rossman, on your old Lemond set-up I noticed that you used JC’s Oval Slam bars. What did you think of them? I just bought a pair of Airstrykes and the pads will rest almost on my wrists in a slam position. I was thinking of either buying another set of clamps one to clamp the bars to the handlebar and the other so that I could set-up the pads in a more comfortable spot or returning them and trying the Ovals. I wanted to know what type of feedback you had as I noticed that you are not going to put them on your new rig - congrats by the way.
To jump in here, I bought a pair of the Oval slam bars from somebody on the forum, to try on my old road bike (or my ‘new’ tri bike, if you will :-)). I had tried some normal Profile tri bars and hated the position and the way they look (!). The Ovals are bloody great!! Just the right position for my arms and back on a bike with regular road geometry. Highly recommended. IF I ever lash out and replace my late lamented KM40 with another dedicated tri bike, I really think I’ll try to use the Ovals again on that, they’ll likely work just fine.
