Question for Portland, Oregon peeps

Would you leave your car (a hatchback) at PDX long-term parking or economy parking for 2 days - with your road bike inside it?

I have a blanket to cover the bike up, but, uh, still…There is nothing on the website about security in the lots. Just that it is “fenced and well lit.”

You should be ok. I’d park it as close to a Street light and the access road as possible. Cover it up. The other option is to do Thrifty or Park 'n Fly, those lots are down Airport Way before you get to the Airport. Cheaper and always monitored, plus their buses are less hectic.

Not sure…I don’t think I would but if it’s covered it probably won’t be noticed.

I would. But my bike sucks, I wish someone would steal it so I would be forced to buy a new one. The only reports I have heard about security there was on the news a few months ago. People would break into the car, steal the garage door opener, and get the address from the registration or whatever they could. Then they would go visit the house and use the remote door opener to get in with the added benifit of knowing you are out of town.

i did in spokane, WA last year. had the same dilemma (actually, i had my whole life in that car at the moment) and everything was fine. having spent some time in portland since, i’d do the same again. have fun!

I would and probably wouldn’t think twice about it, I think it’s a very well run airport and I’m sure the lots are reasonably secure. However, if you’re going to be worried about it you might consider coughing up the $24/day and using the garage. I fly out of PDX almost every week, always park in the garage and have never had any issues in there even when parking my soft top jeep with or without the windows installed.

I think those types of lots are much more secure than your average street in your average city, where some local kid might figure out the car has been there a few days and become an opportunist and steal something.

I’m not so sure. A while ago they had an issue with someone stealing cars, vandalizing etc from the ecomony lot at PDX airport & then saying they wern’t ressponsible at all for security. When are you coming to pdx. I could store your bike for you if I’m here. I’m a couple of miles from the airport.
