Question for OC Peeps(actually Irvine)

If I am coming up from Newport Beach via Jamboree, can I ride my bike between the 405 and 5 freeways? Someone told me a long time ago that cyclists are not allowed on that section of Jamboree. Is it safe? If I can’t ride that section, does anyone know a route I can take if I want to get from around UC Irvine to the Tustin Marketplace without adding a lot of miles? Thanks

Not sure on the legality, but it’s not exactly safe as the shoulder seems pretty narrow and folks fly through there. From UCI (intersection on campus and university), take University or the bike path south (1/2 mile or so), left on Harvard (4.5 miles some with bike path), left on Walnut (1/2 mile)

I wouldn’t do it. I don’t think I have ever actually seen a bike on that section of road.

(yes, I live in Boston now - I moved from Irvine to Boston)

You meant to go North from University, right?

From Walnut (after crossing Jamboree) make a right on Tustin Ranch Road. This leads you past the backside of Tustin Market Place directly back to Jamboree where it is ridable again. Much safer and much more fun.

oops, my bad. haven’t exacty gotten the cardinal directions down here yet with as windy as the roads are.

mayday and adrialin’s route is the way to go.

The really dangerous portion of Jamboree there is from Barranca to Irvine Blvd. (the part passing the base and Tustin Market Place) It is part of my daily commute. Avoid it or die. Not kidding even a little bit.
