Experienced cyclists will often lift themselves off their seat when encountering rough pavement or a bump in the road. This is usually accomplished by placing the pedals in the 3 o’clock/9 o’clock position and pushing down simultaneously on both pedals to transfer the body’s weight off the seat.
Is this maneuver one of the things relinquished when using PC’s? Or is this simply accomplished with both pedals in the 6 o’clock position?
The only problem with this is, if the speed bump or obstruction is very high, the pedals can scrape or hit the speed bump if they are both down. I have learned to avoid this (on those where I have learned this is a problem) by coasting to the speed bump then starting to pedal lightly just as I come to the speed bump so that the pedals are ath the 3 - 9 position and I am unweighting the saddle some. One must be going pretty slow to do this.
