Question for Doug Stern or other "Fish" re: Freestyle recovery

My Masters coach pointed out to me that there is a lot of seperation between my head and shoulder on Freestyle. This came up after I told him I didn’t think I was catching as efficietnly on my left side vs. the right, and that my left shoulder has some achey points. He feels if you “shrug” more on recovery (bringing the shoulder nearer the ear) that it sets up the entry and pull more efficiently. My question is, is that all I need to think of in correcting this problem, a “shrug” recovery, keeping the elbow high and entering directly in front of the shoulder? It feels a little funny (as any new technique changes always do), but are there drills to get this down? Thoughts?
