Question for clip-on bar users

What brand do you use and how do you like them?

Any Profile Jammer users? Heard some complaints these, but wanted to get it straight from some users?

Thanks.

I’ve tried the Profile Jammers, the Oval version of the Jammers, a pair of prototype HED shorties and the Visiontech shorties.

First off, shorty aero bars are what they are: A compromise aerobar to use on a road bike to try to bridge the gap between road bike and tri bike.

As such, they will not be as comfortable or as useful in their current configuration as “real” aerobars used on a tri geometry bike.

That said, my personal favorites are Visiontech Shorties and the Hed Shorties.

The Profiles weren’t bad, it was just that the pad was huge- too large for a road bike, shorty aerobar and the adjustments were odd- I never really found a set-up I truly liked.

The Visions and the HED are light, compact, simple and unobtrusive. I like those two.

I put the Jammers on my bike a couple of weeks ago. Cannot get comfortable at all. If I don’t come up with a solution in the next day or so they will be relegated to the “oh well” pile.

Profile Jammers are great bars but have one major shortcoming - the extensions are tough to get comfortable on. I am planning on putting s bends on them - then I think they will be winners. I think the new T-2’s are essentially the Jammers with the s bends.

Syntace Streamliners. Simple and reasonably light. You can flip the pads around to get them closer to your elbows. Makes up for having a road-length stem, rather than a tri-length (i.e., longer than ideal).

Scott RCOs. one of the best ever made. but sadly, no longer available…

I’ve been fiddling with mine for over a year now. I took someone from here’s suggestion and have them positioned very close together, with the bends at about a 45 degree angle, the ends are almost touching (maybe 1-2 cm’s apart), and the little recess where my thumbs go at the very tips are parallel to the ground.

Not sure if this description helps you, but I’ll try to get some pics posted over the weekend. I’m a little high, but they’re at least serviceable this way.

Does anyone know if a vison shorty will work with an ITM handlebar. (not the round 31.8, but a flat “wing type” bar)?

No, it will not.

So I guess that means I will have to replace my handlebars to a traditional rounded style to be able to use a shorty aerobar on a road bike?

My tribike is in 50 pieces while I get a new frame. For Moo, I’m riding my road bike…a lil modified, but not much. They aren’t really “shorties” though…

Profile Jammers w/ext UNDER the basebar (get extra “8” washer and longer bolts from Profile)

HED S Bends

Works like a charm…

This has been on my mind to do for a while now. It’s gonna be my #1 winter project. Looks perfect!

Well, that’s not totally true. You could look at the Profile Design Dromo bars.

Surprised that no one has mentioned that he put the jammer with s-bend on a carbon bar. Which bar did you mount them too. I have been told that you can do this but that you should make sure that there is nothing to score the carbon bar. I will be doing this with my new carbon bars and the same set-up. Just have to find a place locally (Vancouver) that can get me the s-bend bars from HED.

Syntace C-2. There is good reason that this clip-on has been around so long. I have used Profile and and Scott over the years. Syntace is much better. The Profile models that are length adjustable have their merits but the Syntace models are stiffer, lighter and mount more solidly. They have good customer service and a decent crash replacement (roughly half retail) as well.
