Question for Clincher Tubie users

I stretched my Tufo’s just fine so that they mounted with a little bit of effort. The problem then is getting both bead seams seated - holy crap! Basically it appears that the underside needs to be a bit more pliable - anyone have any quick tips to get them seated (especially around the valve)? Can’t use the dryer to soften them up as I don’t have one, plus I’m thinking about race day when I can’t put one on the bike with me. Thanks.

It is definitely tough… I’ve been able to work it slowly with my fingers going inch-by-inch around the rim. Use a little plastic tire lever to jam it down if need be. That’s what I’ve done every time I’ve done it. Filling them up to max PSI also helps pop the bead down in. A combination of all of the above does seem to be required. I can’t imagine trying to change one during a race…

As for the valve area, seat it first, before you even mount the tire completely. It will be super easy at that point, then set both beads as you start to mount the tire until it is time for the stretch and mount. At this point you are only left with about 10 inches to fool with, which is no big deal.

For taking a spare at least the elite jet and the cs 33 special seem to fold up just like the tubulars I used to run.

Advise: best not to load the sealant in a spare and then fold it up, it will internally stick to itself. At least that has been my experience.

Separate question: Mounted my spares last weekend for a short ride to make sure they would hold air, rear tire slid (rotated/spun?) on the rim jamming the valve into the honeycomb of my disk. Washed the tires about 1 week earlier so they were definitely dry, aired them up to about 140psi. This ever happen to anyone else, any suggestions?
