i will be driving in from Detroit tomorrow morning and stopping in Michigan City to do a little shopping with my wife on the way into Rockman. Once we leave is it going to be best to follow 90 the whole way to the park, or will that be bad in the afternoon on a Saturday?
Also any body interested in getting lunch at the outlets and caravaning the rest of the way?
90 can be a mess on weekend afternoons. unfortunately, i’ve never tried the alternate routes around the city, so i can’t say whether or not they’d be any better. worst time is from noon to 6.
294 is a good option or even taking I-88 over to 39 and coming in the south side of Rockford. Significantly longer but normally very little weekend traffic. Not sure about construction conditions. I went down to Aurora a couple of weeks ago and there where no problems.
You can take the skyway & avoid the cluster fck of the Dan Ryan! Just get off 90/94 @ the exit Chicago via toll about 10 minutes past Michigan city. You then rejoin 90/94 @ the tail end of the major Road Work! Good luck bet Saturday should not be to bad!
the problem with that is still having to deal with the Skyway toll plaza which has been under construction (and can really bottleneck traffic) then part of the Dan Ryan (the better part) and then the Kennedy. They shouldn’t necessarily be bad, but they could be, it’s also Blues Fest this weekend downtown. Of course, if he doesn’t have an I-Pass, then his drive will suck no matter what. He’s probably screwed no matter what.
Very strong points! But I still think the SkyWay is faster mid day on a Saturday! He is Fckd anyway Whitesux have a 2:55 home game!! So all routes are going to suck in that time period!!
if it weren’t for the high winds in the area that might be alot of fun. My dad has attempted that route before, but never made it due to a full ferry.
oh yeah, and to get me and my wife and the car across round trip woudl cost almost $400. (does that seem really high?)
It does not seem to make economic sense. I guess you have to look at is as a touristy thing.
Traffic and roads just suck around the south end of Lake Michigan.
My drives to IMLP and IMFL are similar in distance, but I am able to avoid the pinchpoint around the lake for Florida which makes the drive much, much less stressful.
