I know quite a few R2.5 riders are here. Could some of you tell me if my rear dropout looks the same as yours? I am concerned about the seatstay to dropout connection. The chainstay to dropout connection looks fine. I know they had failures before at the chainstay to dropout. I am not concerned about that but think my left connection from the seatstay to dropout looks wrong. It is also different than the one on the right side of the bike. As you can see this left side is not flush at all like the other joints. Al the other joint are quite flush. It is not loose so that is fine. Also it does not seem to be out of alignment so that is fine too. But it is glaring & I am wondering if it is the same for others? I have contacted cervelo & their answer was iffy? Here is the letter with sig removed.
""Sorry for the tardiness. It looks odd but saying that we have never had a debonding there. The debonding that we have seen in the past came from the chainstay/drop out junction. That junction is under tension where the seat stay junction is under compression. If it were loose the weight of your body over a bump would totally push them together so I think structurally you should be fine.
Thank you for your support and again sorry my my late reply.
Sincerely,

I am a little worried as I ride mostly big climbs & fast decents. If everyone elses looks like this then fine. I will feel like it is no problem. Here is a pic. Any info appreciated. Thanks
It doesn’t look too much different, although there seems to be a slight gap between the dropout and the seat stay. Mine isn’t much different, at least by the quick comparison I just did.
Thanks folks for the answers.
Yes I am disappointed because yes I do expect better for 3K ( I bought the Chorus bike )
I have been riding many years 18+
I have owned many high end bike. Look, Colnago etc.
I was not satisfied with the reply I got from Cervelo.
In their own words they said “It does look odd”
But my body weight would hold it together???
Scary at best & at worst I see it as you do. Undo strain due to a bad angle of entry. I would not think if it fails it is a matter of my body weight holding it in. I think it would blow period. Also from a liability standpoint I would think they would want to recall this frame. The email shows they agree it is odd. But also from a standpoint of this should not be representative of their work. Just my opinions of course.
I have written to Gerard via his email link here. He is on vacation till 12-14 according to a auto email response.
Hopefully when he returns he can make it right.
I am penciled in to take this bike to the Alps in September.
At this point I am a little concerned about screaming down climbs like that with this in the back of my mind.
I hope it turns out good because I really do like the bike & the company. I could see myself sticking with them for years.
Thanks again,
Mike
I hope Gerard responds. I’m sure he’s quite busy so I’d PM him again just to be sure after he returns. It’s not many bike companies that you can talk to the owner over a public forum.
Just wanted to let everyone know…
I have been in contact with Chris Bastie from Cervelo while Gerard is on vacation. Chris is also a memeber here under the name bastie.
After going over it a few times they have agreed to replace the frame free of charge. They wanted to repair or actually refinish the part in question as Chris assured me it was cosmetic only. I explained how I was pressed for time & had only this bike at this time.
Chris set up an exchange for me through the LBS I bought it from Excel.
In the end I agreed to purchase another frame from Excel so I could have it before I send this off. They agreed & will refund my cost including their shipping to me when I return my frame.
I would just like to say how happy & impressed I am with Chris & The Cervelo company. I was pretty upset at the thought of being without wheels during a time I do a lot of riding.
They came through & showed me they know what customer satisfaction is all about.
They have a long time future customer in me as a result. I love how the R2.5 rides & handles so was pretty bummed at the thought of changing brands.
Thanks again to Chris & Cervelo!
I really appreciate it.
