Question about USAT bikes rule and IM

I’ll be competing in IMAZ and was curious if the race officials actually measure everyones bike to see if it conforms to the rules as defined in the USAT. I’ve got a frame and fork combo I’d like to sue but the only problem is its too long in one measurement (the “front-to-center” distance). So for those who have done a IM, did they measure your bike?

It’s off by more than an inch.

what do ya think???

here’s the rule:

(d) The “front-to-center” distance, which is defined as the distance between a vertical line passing through the center of the chain wheel axle and a vertical line passing through the center of the front axle, must measure not less than 54 centimeters and no more than 65 centimeters, except that in the case of bicycles for taller participants (where the distance between the center of the chain wheel axle and the top of the saddle is greater than 80 centimeters), the front-to-center distance cannot exceed 68 centimeters and, in the case of bicycles for shorter cyclists (where the distance between the center of the chain wheel axle and the top of the saddle is less than 71 centimeters), the front-to-center distance cannot be less than 50 centimeters. Applicability of the two foregoing exceptions is determined by measuring from a point on top of the saddle which is 14 centimeters behind the front most point of the saddle.

I’ll bet you $50 that you can ride it w/out USAT caring.

OK – I just gotta know what sort of frame/fork combo goes over 65cm (or 68cm in big sizes). That’s a slack headtube, with a long-rake fork, on a big frame.

What is it you’ve got?

My bet is that you’d get away with it, but if you do get caught/tell you’ll be branded a cheater and people will be calling for a lifetime ban.

Seriously though - what are you running?

Yes, you’re right. Reason being is it’s a 29" mtn bike frame. Don’t ask, I’m weird. I re-measure more precisely and it’s not far off actually. It’s more like a .5 inch. Hard to measure as the headset isn’t pressed to the fork yet.

Thanks for your input guys…we’ll see how it goes

ok you’re busted now hehehe

.

Is it this one?

Ken

the rule is now changed. the new “morphological exception” states that your front center can be either 65cm or 87.5% of your saddle height, whatever is greater. measure from the BB to the top of the saddle, midpoint of the saddle.
