Question about the Bontrager clip ons

I’m looking to cut about an inch off of the Bontrager Race X carbon clip ons. It appears that there is a taper toward the bottom but how far up does it go? Is there any issue with cutting an inch off the top where the shifters go in?

Be very careful cutting these bars. I cut an inch of my carbon bars and ended up having to take a dremel to the inside so that I could get the shifters in. I am by no means an inside cutting tech and managed to cut a hole through the bar. They still work, but I’m nervous about what is going to happen in the long turn. Not good for a $100 set of bar extensions.

Thanks for the info. I actually spoke with someone at Trek today and they highly discouraged cutting these bars. Looks like I’ll have to figure something out or switch extensions.
