Question about polar wearlink strap

To anyone who may know and particularly for the Polar rep on this board

I bought my CS200CAD a little over 2 years ago so it’s out of warranty and I’m not getting good connectivity for the heart rate part. Sometimes I will get a heart rate for maybe 5-10 minutes but then it goes away and only shows 000 for the rest of the time.

I have replaced the battery in both the wearlink and cs200 but no improvement.
I had the habit of only unclipping one side of the strap because on the other side a plastic bit broke. Would the battery be slowly draining with only one side connected?
I don’t think it’s the battery because sometimes it works for a few minutes. I’d like to know for sure if it is only the wearlink strap that is defective and needs to be replaced.

mine died pretty much about 2 years of everydat using, these things have a life. I got a new one at the marathon expo and readings went back to normal. if you have not washed it regularly salt in sweat fills the textures in the fabric.

Ditto the cleaning - every time you take it off - rinse and dry it with a towel. Leaving it wet basically keeps the thing ‘turned on’ - not sure the techincal explanation, but if the strap remains damp, it thinks its still transmitting. Polar rep told me that was one cause of battery life shortening. I’ve been using the same strap for almost two years and haven’t replaced the battery in the strap yet - its used probably an average of 10 hours per week, so not huge use, but a long time for the battery to remain (still original battery).

It’s amazing what a little cleaning can do. I just used a plastic wire brush on the terminals and put it on and have been sitting with the laptop and getting great heart rate reception for the last 35 minutes.

the terminal on the side that I used to never unclip was a little less shiny than the other one so I guess there must have been some oxidation there. Still strange that it would work for a few minutes and then quit instead of just not working at all.

Thanks for the cleaning advice.

I put a little bit of dielectric grease on the contacts every once in a while. That really helps.
