Question about New Tri Shoes

Looking to get new shoes going into next season. Any thoughts/experiences as to what to look for, specifically if I’m focusing on a long hot race like IM AZ? Seems like there’s lots of “features” on newer shoes that increase the price and little else. Also, are there any merits to a triathlon or cycling shoe specifically in an IM distance race? Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems cycling shoes are more comfortable and worth the neglible time saved with a tri shoe.

Specialized Tri Vent…those funny tan marks you get on top of your feet are a badge of honour
.

I like my Shimano tri shoes…

I have the L.G. Tri-Carbon’s from last year and really love them. Great especially if you have a wide foot as the toe box is very large.

My tri shoes are just as comfortable as my road shoes - so no worries there. I use the Specialized Trivent - very comfortable and well-designed. The silver color reflective carbon fiber sole is intended to reflect the heat off of the road - but I don’t know how much difference that really makes. They are well ventilated and are designed to drain water well. Find the shoe that feels best for you.

I have the Specialized - funky colors (pearly white/black) but great shoes - fantastic fit, wide toe box, easy to get into, very comfortable yet stiff, and you can switch innersoles depending on your arch. Had many pairs of Sidis before and the Specialized are a huge improvement in stiffness and comfort - Sidis have a narrow box. However, for IM distance I see no reason to pick tri shoes over road shoes if those work best for you.
