Has anyone had luck freezing Ensure or Boost in a water bottle and then using on a long ride or race? Ice cubes are always an option, but just wondering if anyone went this route and if it was still drinkable once it started thawing out.
yes. i’ve done it a couple of different ways and it’s all been just fine. with ensure knock-offs, too.
most recently, i did it for kona. froze the bottles, then put one on the bike (holds 3 cans’ worth), and one in the special needs bag. both were just fine, in taste and effect.
the other thing i’ve done at home/in training, is to freeze what was left over, then add some. i defrosted the bottle first, then added more/room temperature/new stuff. also—forgot i had frozen leftovers, did a ride and had leftovers, so added that onto the frozen ensure knock-off, froze that, used it a week later. all good.

Perfect. Was thinking of going this route for IMAZ and wanted to keep it as cold as possible for as long as possible. Will try it on some long upcoming training rides next spring.
Not specific to Ensure…but I got a tip from somewhere to enclose a bottle in one of those “bubble” mailers as a cheap cooler. It works pretty well for keeping things a little cooler…longer.
You should have titled your post “How do I make frozen Ensure?”, sort of like “How do I make flat coke?”
.
FWIW, I’ve used Ensure and Slim Fast for race nutrition and decided a long time ago to just get used to drinking them warm. It really isn’t bad, it’s a hullava lot easier, and there’s no ill effects.
