Never say never but I really doubt it.
yeah, basically you use the speed from UW until you cannot do it anymore due to oxygen debt or CO2 accumulation. When you go out too hard in the classic sense you build up to much lactate, but that’s not the main culprit when you’re racing UW.
Ya sure, but you control how long you stay under and how many kicks, so are still in control of your pacing overall. Leon has just trained himself to be able to do it longer and more efficient than anyone else at the moment. The 500 really is not his race and has hardly swam it, but I bet if it was his #1 event, he would perfect that back end like he has his 400IM.
Your kid seems to be progressing nicely for his age, hope he is having fun too and enjoying the ride. Couple more years of high school and he should be able to go most anywhere if he keeps improving..
Take it for what its worth:
Leon’s last 100 of his 3:28.8 400 IM was only 50.8
Mijatovic does it in 48.
Leon’s last 100 of his 3:28.8 400 IM was only 50.8
But keep in mind that he goes out the fly in record pace, then splits the breast at a speed no one approaches. But yes his achilles heel is the free leg, and I always figured if and when he becomes the first to break 4 minutes, it will be because he finally got that last 100 on par with the other 3. It’s just that he wins the race at the 250 and doesn’t have anything but the clock to push him in that event..
