I am not a Trekie by any stretch of the imagination. Nor am I a person that plays Dungeons and Dragons. But I did notice that this show gets rave reviews (i.e. on tv.com it is mentioned that this is one of the all time best shows). I have watched all of 24 and other great shows. Is this one worth watching or is it just for geeks?
Kinda a geek myself, but I’ll bite. I think it is a great show. Wonderful character development, very well written, good acting, good stories.
It’s an excellent show, enjoyable by the geek and non-geek. It has really interesting characters and is definitely better than the show from the 80’s.
It is a good show for people who enjoy science fiction but are not obsessed with it.
yep…
and the monsters scare my 7 year old…
thats all that matters ![]()
Only if you can think while on the trainer. Seriously, this show tackles more issues than any other. Best show on TV.
I tried watching it, but gave up after about three episodes because I felt like it had no soul.
Even though it can drift over into geeky, I like Farscape for trainer time because the show usually moves quickly enough to keep me distracted from the bike ride to nowhere.
It gets rave reviews for a reason. I watched the first season by myself because my wife is not a sci-fi fan. I finally convinced her to at least watch an hour of the mini series. She got hooked and I ended up watching the first season again with her (and enjoyed it just as much the second time). Sometimes she had us watching three episodes a night. Believe me when I say it was strange to hear her say “Let’s go watch a Battlestar Galactica.” It would be like me saying, “Let’s watch the Home and Garden channel.”
Everyone whom I’ve loaned my Battlestar dvds to has gotten hooked big time. But watch the mini series first. This is a continious story that needs to be seen in order.
BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION! I love BSG and I am a total geek.
It’s the best show on TV right now and pretty much the only show that I watch on a regular basis. Yes, it is based on scifi but this show explores more deep issues relating to every single person in America than any other show. The show is gritty. People are damaged and have scars and some don’t heal from them. The characters make mistakes and have to pay for them. I’m a geek and started watching it because of the scifi aspect, but I’m definitely hooked on the drama, character development, and story telling of the show. Also, the episode “Exodus Pt2” was the only TV episode that made me jump from my couch and yell “Holy shit!”. That one hour of TV was simply amazing.
I’m a Sci-Fi geek…and although I like the show, I have no idea why it get’s such great reviews.
Could be that I find it comes to close to a soap opera so I don’t find it as intriging as some of the other Sci-Fi suff.
All in all a good show, better than most and definetely worth watching, I just don’t find it as good as other people seem to. Too much drama…I have a teenage daughter, I don’t need anymore drama.

It’s worth watching though you will lose some of the dialog. The sound goes up and down and often I can’t hear some of the quiet conversations. I watched 2 hours while riding this weekend.

Great show - I enjoy it. As someone said, only watch it if you are able to think while you ride.
It touches on a lot of social issues in our world, and has many, many story lines that are going on under the surface.
Anybody else wonder what’s up with “we don’t talk about them” referring to the other five?
Another great show to watch while riding is Serenity.
I have not seen this. But my favorite trainer shows, in addition to 24, are The Shield and Alias.

If you haven’t watched all the episodes and been following the underlying story lines, then some of the appeal is probably lost. That said…
Very weird that you asked. My brother shipped me a batch of DVD’s last year which was every episode recorded (first season). I watched them specifically to kill trainer time, and as this winter approached I was wondering what I’m going to do to kill the time this year.
What I like: people aren’t “good” or “bad” – they’re complex mixes of both. Also, the writers aren’t afraid to have very bad things happen, and stories don’t always have feel-good endings.
What I don’t like: unwarranted melodrama, repetitive childish and/or moronic behavior by certain characters (mainly Starbuck)

Is season 1 the mini-series?
Anybody else wonder what’s up with “we don’t talk about them” referring to the other five?
The 7 Cylon models we have seen don’t know the true indentities of the remaining 5. Ron Moore alluded to this in one of his recent podcasts, which if you are a fan of the show, are awesome! They are on SciFi.com.
Yes, the mini series is the 1st DVD of season one. Then the remaining have the 1st full season.

You mean all people in real life above the age of 18 and who hold a somewhat highly regarding position in an organization like the military never have unwarranted melodrama, repetitive childish and/or moronic behavior? Even today there are people like Starbuck everywhere. I like her but it drives me crazy when she does stupid shit but that is what makes the show so compelling. People you like do stupid crap and have to pay for it.
Interesting…
