i am thinking of changing out my road bar for either a carbon one that works with aero bars or an aluminum one that of course works with aero bars. I saw the Profile strykes but I dont have the right profile stem so it might be easier and cheaper to do the road base bar and that way i would have more options for aero bars.
There is really no reason to get a carbon road bar - seriously. Even less so if you are going to clamp on some dork bars as only a few “approve” it (like Kestrel’s), but then they are heavier and way more expensive than a good aluminum one (i.e. a Deda 215, Newton, Ritchey WCS, etc.)
I am doing auburn half ironman triathlon and everyone says to use road bike with aero bars? That is why I am doing the few approve of move what do you guys think or should I go with the tri bike instead.
That is up to you. You can use a tri bike on ANY tri course from Auburn to the old France to the TTT. If you can stay down/aero, it will probably be faster. I’ve done many races both ways (IM even on a road bike with clip-ons just to see). Your fit/comfort/positioning is paramount. If you are a roadie at heart and don’t have a great fit on your tri bike, or sit up a lot/squirm - might as well go with the clip-ons on a good set of road bars, torqued properly to spec. Slide the seat forward a bit and hammer away!
I am more of a tri bike guy not a road bike much at all. I am going to go with the tri bike with 53/39 instead of my normal 54/42. I am comfortable. Next question CAN I switch or should I switch from the ISM Adamo to a normal tri seat for the climbing at Auburn? ISM kills during climbing. Thanks for your help.
