Quelle Challenge Roth

Being a biased Aussie, of course I wanted Macca to win, but when a race like that comes down to a sprint finish and a 3 second margin, you can’t complain and just appreciate the competition. Awesome race, and not bad times.

Go to the results page and scroll down to final results to see the splits - shows how important transitions can be, even in IM (Leder was 48sec quicker in T1 and T2). Good workout before Hawaii.

Tough day for Aussie, 2nd in this race, Wimbledon and Stage 2 of the TDF! Can’t win them all!

It looks like it was quite a race indeed! Just for fun take a look at some of the “raceday bike” photos. Looks like majority of riders on drop bars and positions certainly don’t look FIST-like. Guess the Euros just take a different approach.

I was a spectator last yr at Roth and got a good look at the bikes both pros and AG. You are definitely correct about the bikes. Other than Principa, most of the local bike brands were road bikes with 700c wheels, there were very few tri bikes to be seen. Also very few foreign brands, i.e. no European. Also few TT set ups (bar end shifters) which maybe to do with the rules. I think Slowman addressed this in an article sometime ago.

Group,

I have done Roth 5 times and IMHO it is the best race in the world, bar none.

Next, they had live web cam coverage of the race and the finish - fantastic! I don’t believe either the TdF or IMH has this.

If I get “permission,” I will be there next year for #6. Hope to see you Felix!

I did IMCAL in 2000 and 2001, I think it was the 2001 race where they had a finish line cam. I think it was live for the race, but the cool thing was that when you looked at the results afterwards, you could click on a link and it would bring up a 30 second clip of you finishing, they should do that for every race.

My wife watched me finish IM USA online last year. She just happened to sit down for a second at the screen…and heard my name announced and watched me finish. It was pretty cool.

I watched my buddy Benjamin cross the line in Kona last year with a big grin on his boyish mug. I was unable to get streaming video from Roth, perhaps due to poor domestic bandwidth availability…
