Quarq stopped working after 3 months....any ideas

Mieke

New battery, magnet is for sure there (grabs screwdriver strong), pulled out the battery contacts, still nothing. Do not have time to call during the day (sorry) and live in Penticton, BC. Any suggestions or should I just take back to the Bike Barn where it was installed?

Best, Tom

Should have stuck with the PT
.

Lucky for John it happened the morning after I gave him the disk w/ PT. Otherwise he would have received a front wheel and “that damn Stover forgot again” and would have totally believed it. Actually just swapped out the battery and the Garmin found it. Seems like my trip to the stone ages has been averted for now.

ditto for me. I was loving the unit until it just died. The magnet is still there and I put a new battery in, but no go with the quarq. They were very nice on the phone and I’ll be shipping it back to them MOnday. I’m bummed tho, I have 1 last race and I’m a power junkie. Glad to see that I’m not the only one that this happened to…

So what was the outcome of this? Did quarq ever give you an idea of what happened?

Mine is displaying similar behavior. Ie: it randomly stopped working.

Mine keeled over and died a few weeks ago. Took it to the lbs who said termed been some reported troubles with them and they sent it back to quarq. Few days later a new one arrived and its been fine since. They stand behind their products.

Ditto for me, same 3 months. As above, was sorted out quickly by Quarq.

Never found out what the issue was.

spoke with quarq today. they sent me a 2 day shipping label (free) which is great, but 2 days there, 1-2 days in shop, and 2 days back, thats a week without a crank in the beginning of high mileage block of workouts…

I guess I could spring for the overnight shipping for $60 (not to mention the serious coin I already paid for this nice thing). I was hoping they’d give me overnight shipping free, but I’m sure that would get expensive quickly for them.

Should’ve just laced my flawless powertap.

This is all reassuring. I just bought a new Quarq along with a new bike…after a week or two, the same thing was happening when riding. Watts would go from “normal” range to very low, then completely drop out. Called Quarq from the LBS and they had me updated firmware on my Edge 500 (it was 5 updates behind, who knew?). However it is still happening…

I dropped off my Quarq and crank at the bike shop on Monday, to be sent back to Quarq for service or replacement. Hoping this is a quick turnaround and that it works when I get it back. It seems this is a common issue…did anyone hear root cause from Quarq?

It’s one week out of like 52. If you’ve been using it long enough, you should have a pretty good idea of your PE/Power scale. And, if you are worried about the lack of exact data, you can probably just estimate the workouts that you do…time/watts/distance/etc. so that you PM chart is relatively close to real life.

It is probably the electronics or communication pods. We sent one in last week to have them replaced and put the spider back on last night. Worked fine today.

Brandon, I think what he is saying is that is the only crank he has. I have always held onto an extra crank just in case anything mechanical or electronics wise goes bad on the Quarq or previously the SRM. In terms of Quarq and their customer service, top notch! I had to send mine back because I was having some intermittent issues with it and they took care of it and haven’t had a problem since. There is one thing that I have not come across when seeing a Quarq thread and that is a complaint about customer service, other than the OP on here stating that he didn’t get an email back right away. I have dealt with them both via email and phone and have never had an issue, and it seems that is the general consensus around here.

Surely most slowtwitchers have several spare cranksets lying around by now, given the short crankarm craze.
.

Yeah, I get what you are saying. And, if that is the case, then usually Quarq sends the non-PM spider with the powermeter. So, the shop should be able to swap them out and put normal rings on there for the week. The Rotor is the only one that has a tricky lockring to remove.

I was taking the “there is no way i can live without my PM for a week” reply. Even though I think that they are one of the best training tools out there, everyone should be able to go without for a week!

I don’t care much about a week without power.

But riding a bike without a crank is quite challenging.

Buying an el cheapo spare crank is not a difficult undertaking…

See my other post. I know…I took the type ‘a’ triathlete approach. Do you have the spider to the crankset? You can send in just the powermeter if you do, and won’t have to worry about being crankless.

Typically not. Unfortunately I have a bbright frame and most of those cranks are pricey.

Borrow a crank for a week from the LBS that sold you the Quarq. They’ll have lots sitting around.

There is something really incredible about good customer service this day in age. When you sell a sophisticated device, stuff is going to go wrong. My quarq stopped working randomly and after talking with Quarq (who contacted ME via a PM here) they took care of me like I was a sponsored athlete.

I couldn’t be happier with them. I’m glad my quarq had an issue, because now I know how well they stand behind their product, and I now have justification to never use another pm.

Quarq - thank you for the extra mile you went to completely satisfy a customer.

Mieke,

Here the day before CdA and mine just stopped working. Same story as above…I changed the battery, made sure the prongs were at a 45% angle, magnet is still in place. Anyone from Quarq at CdA that can help fix this issue today or am I out of luck?

Thanks

Mike
