Quarq Saturn Addition to a P2

I am looking at a Christmas present for myself and my training for IMTX. I currently have a 2011 P2. This has the standard FSA crank set (FSA Gossamer (50/34)) (I need to look into crank arm length don’t know it while I a posting here. The power meter and crank set are already expensive. Can anyone help me with what else I am going to need to change that will increase the price? i.e. will the ultegra chain and rear cassette still work with the saturn or will I need to upgrade this as well?

Thanks for the help in advance.

disclaimer: i don’t have a crank-based power meter.

it’s pretty straightforward, though. the answer to your question is that you don’t have to change anything. the crank is just a crank, nothing else. you can bolt whatever chainrings you want on there as long as they’re the right size (110 vs. 130 BCD)…same as any other crank. it will work with whatever chain, cassette, etc. you want to use.

ETA: your FSA crank is 50/34, which is compact and therefore 110 BCD. if you want the same thing, get a compact 110 BCD quarq. then you can even just swap your chainrings over…although personally, i’d use that as an excuse to upgrade, because the FSA rings are pretty crappy.

oh, and…make sure the crank is compatible with your bottom bracket.

Thanks… I am new to all this bike speak… As a swimmer all I had to do was get some goggles and pick an ugly speedo.

Call our customer service folks when you get a chance and they’ll help you out. You’ll need a new bottom bracket because none of our cranks will work with your current FSA bottom bracket. The FSA SLK cranks we sell need a specific bottom bracket (thanks to FSA who has like a million different bbs).

The SRAM and FSA bottom brackets that we sell are $35 so really you could go with either crank. The GXP SRAM setup is around $100 less than the FSA setup. The other option is Rotor, but it is the most expensive option of the three.

Your current chain should work with the SRAM, FSA or Rotor Quarq options. The only other thing you’ll need is a head unit if you don’t already have one. The most popular is the Garmin Edge 500.

I ride with this same setup (although 2009 P2), and it works like a charm. You don’t need to change anything else, just get a head unit (EDGE 500 is what I use) and ride.

Any repair issues, cleaning, maint, I should know about?
