When I was fitted for my current tri bike, I was looking at three frames: Cannondale IM800, Cervelo P2K, and QR Tiphoon. I fell in love with the QR but the Cannondale fit well and was in my desired price range.
But now QR has their sale going with the Tiphoon for $1000 off the frame price and I have all the parts I want to build up a my desired setup.
Any thoughts on the Tiphoon… ride quality, durability, etc?
If the Tiphoon was as good a fit as the C’Dale…there’s no comparison.
Get the QR.It could be the last tri bike you will ever need.
And this is from a former C’Dale IM 2000 owner.
But, I don’t want you to feel bad if you end up w/ the C’Dale,as it too is a very good bike.
Just not in the same league as the QR.
The Qr’s ride will a bit smoother, plus no paint chips, and dings to worry about.
Nothing against the Cannondale, but go with Titanium. I got off a Softride and bought a Merlin. Now I have 2 merlins and am saving for a Custom Blade.
You won’t regret the TiPhoon.
The Tiphoon is absolutely top notch. It is a ballsy bike: Stiff and tough. Very nice. A great bike if you like to travel and flight case the bike a lot. No worries with flight case damage.
However, I’ll challenge you a lil bit and use me as an example.
I’ll take a 55cm TiPhoon or a 56cm Cannondale…I forget off the top of my head, but both have around a 54.5cm top tube. However, the Cannondale is measured at 78 degrees and the TiPhoon at 76. So, there’s a little give and take…although real similiar.
It comes down to your own level of rationale. IMO, the TiPhoon is the ultimate bike which you’ll have for years to come. The Cannondale is going to be ridden by newest IM World Champ in 2005. ;o)
