Here is one of our more recent QR CD0.1 builds - this one is equiped with a full SRAM Red drive train with the new Zipp VumaChrono TT cranks. The wheels are Zipp 808/Sub-9 (note that we had to make some modifications to the rear brake pads to make the Sub-9 fit on the CD0.1). The cockpit is a Zipp Vuka w/ Vuka Shift Extensions. Unfortunately I made an agreement w/ the shifter manufacturer that I wouldn’t show the shifters - you will have to wait a couple months for our ads in Triathlete/Inside Tri to “see what’s under the hood” (Yes, I know a few of you were here for the Gorilla Multisport camp and might have “accidently” seen the bike). Enjoy!
Here’s the drive train:
If you want one of these trusty steeds, give us a ring, we have several in stock.
Yeah, I just don’t want to go there. You can probably guess what they are, but we got the major hookup getting them in here for the photo shoot and the manufacturer has entrusted us w/ keeping our mouths shut. Trust me, the worst part is that we have some incredible pictures of the bike that have to be kept under wraps for several weeks.
I thought we’d already seen pictures of these, but on a closer inspection it seems that the press release photos were just mock-ups. I’m looking forward to seeing the final product.
Seton, Awesome build, thanks for sharing. The bike looks really nice. It is great to see a superior aerodynamic bike that has a good paint scheme on it, you do not see that very often now a days
Just curious what’s the advantage of the Zipp VumaChrono TT cranks they look space age and kind of cool but what’s there advantage over other cranks, like SRAM etc.
I had the good fortune to see this bike in the flesh yesterday( Thanks Seton for showing it to me), and it looks amazing. This might be the bike that puts QR back on the map!
but they are also really heavy, which is inexplicable to me

Yes, they are more aerodynamic; however, the big thing with the VumaChrono’s is that they are crazy stiff. I had a top secret meeting with them last month and I’m sure you will start to see the data coming out about how stiff they really are. Dave Ripley, one of Zipp’s main product guys will be out at TRIFEST this weekend and talking at the conference. I’m sure this will be one of the topics…time to hop on a plane and get out to Tucson!
Are flexy cranks really a problem? I can’t imagine there is any performance advantage between even a sora crank and the Zipp purely from stiffness. Even old square taper sora to bb30, again purely from stiffness. Has there ever been a study that linked crank stiffness to performance.
All that being said the bike looks nice and I am sure the cranks are great too. If I had a ton of money sitting around I would consider them.
Only because no one else has gone there…seat is too high!
Well actually, bars look too high and the seat looks too low. Are there any big names who will be racining on one of these for 2009?
Any idea how this will compete against: P3C, Scott Plasma, Felt DA and others for market share? What will attract the consumer to this frame vs. the established ones, other than looking for something different?
