Does anyone know if QR made any changes to the CD 0.1 Dura Ace with the new 2012 model? Aside from color (white decals vs. red), and switching from Reynolds Assaults to the Strikes on the wheelset, I don’t see any changes. Thanks.
I think I read something about a stronger rear brake? Taken from the Illicito but I could be mistaken
Just curious- are the red decals faster?
I think the red stickers have dimples.
I don’t know about that rear brake comment. Just reading through the TriSports University review of the Illicito today, I noted that it has the same brake as my 2011 Cd 0.1. I am guessing the rear brakes on the 2011 and 2012 Cd0.1 are the same. I suspect that the bashing of previous Cd0.1 rear brakes was largely for the pre-2011 models. I honestly don’t have any complaints about my rear brakes (or the fronts). Of course, I do all my own work and don’t mind devoting time to getting things right…if you were the type of person that didn’t want to devote time to working on your bike, then I could understand some folks not being as positive about the Cd0.1 brake set up.
As to the original question, I can’t say much about 2012 vs 2011. I can say that I have really enjoyed my 2011 Cd0.1 (bought the frameset, new, for $1300 last April). It has been a great bike and easily is more bike than I have talent/ability.
Hope that helps.
Chris
This is a great question. There are a few big differences between the 2011 and 2012. Traditionally, we have only used the highest modulus (and lightest weight) carbon fiber for CD0.1 framesets in the QR line. We have had dealers and consumers ask for the higher modulus frames to be used in our more expensive complete bikes, so we did for 2012 with the Dura Ace version of the CD0.1. The wheelset has been upgraded to a Reynolds Strike from the Assault. The cockpit is now a Vision Vector carbon adjustable aero bar and base bar. The other big change is the adjustment of crank sizes in the line. We are now using a 165 on small CD0.1s, 170 on medium and medium-large CD0.1s, and 172.5 on larges. It’s a shift downward to where fitters are looking for better options.
Obviously, there are some significant upgrades (the retail did go up to $6,200 this year), but they are worth every penny. The 2011 retail was $5,700 and they did go on sale this past fall, so you do have a tough decision to make.
Please let me know if there are any questions.
