have a dura ace front der. I had the Qrings set on 4 did 70 or so miles on 4 setting but want to try setting 3. See other post about Qrings if u want. Well on 4 the front der worked fine. Changed to three and now the front der rubs teeth on big ring when in small ring. So i raised with front screw on Der the der a bit. Should I be at closest clearing of teeth as possable or a bit up? Which I did a bit up about 1/4". Am I goint to lose the chain constantly tomorrow? Are there any other tweaks to the front der i should do now b4 riding tomorrow? damn thing shifted perfectly in 4 setting. Just want to see if I can get some free speed or more power on 3 setting since seemed a bit harder then stock compact Chainring when climbing my baby flew on the straights.
1/4" sounds like a lot, might start dragging when you are using your small gears
.
Ok I will try 1/8 ?
i would not set the q-ring position to accommodate the front derailleur, i would set it for your effective seat tube angle and your chain angle. remember that the q-ring “number” actually means different things for the big vs. the small chainring. also, changing the ring position shouldn’t affect the derailleur in any significant way (as the ring revolves constantly).
also, the shifting up front with a single or double q-ring set up will always be bad, compared to an optimal dura ace derailleur shifting on round rings, that’s just a fact of life. i make my front derailleur clear the peak of the rings by 1.5-2 mm, no more than that. but even with minimal clearance and perfect lateral adjustment, the chain can still drop (to the inside) sometimes during a very quick shift. to solve that problem: k-edge chain catcher.
Thanks will look that up.
