Q re Modulating Running Speed

OK - I may be over-thinking this, but I’m very insecure with my running technique. The question is how – technically – should one control their running speed? For example, let’s say you are doing a Fartlek workout and you want to ramp down from a fast-tempo pace to a slow pace. Is it better to (a) cut your stride, (b) slow your cadence, (c) a little of each, or (d) JFR?
