I read the discussions regarding the Pyro Platforms and it seems even those experienced with the Platforms sometimes can’t easily get buckled in and wind up riding on top of the Platforms through some or all of the bike course. Has anyone tried putting their running shoes in the Platforms, placing the running shoes/Platforms in the transition area and then at T1 putting them on their feet and running through T1 with that combination? It seems you eliminate the rubber band issues and any uncertainty in strapping in. And if T1 is grassy, the run in the Platforms isn’t that difficult. T2 can then be handled in the normal fashion with the Platforms. What am I missing? Isn’t this more certain if not easier?
That would be the same as running in your bike shoes, right? You would have to run through T1 in your Look/Speedplay cleats. So then the only time you really save would be in coming out of the platforms at T2 vs a shoe change at T2. Not sure that’s a huge time saver.
Ive used pyro’s for years, I havent had any troubles getting in them.
The technique I use is to mount from the left side of the bike. Place your left foot in the pedal then swing your right leg over and flip up the right pedal with the toe of your shoe to enter it and then tighten the velcro straps once under way. Sometimes when dismounting you will need to flip the heel retainer off of your heel with a finger to get your shoe out.
They make more sense for duathlons than tri’s.
their also valuable in a tri with a flat bike course and a long t2 with a lot of running involved. but yeah du’s mostly.

I think Pyro’s are suppose to be mounted on the bikes, then at T1 you put your running shoes and run to the line and start them into the Pyro’s. You’re not suppose to leave the Pyro’s at T1, cuz that defeats the whole purpose.
