Guys…
After several years of gasping at everyone’s bikes I finally have something to gasp at in my own home (besides the missus!)
This sounds a bit gushy but I literally feel blessed; here is the story…
For the last months I have been working my proverbial off for one of my company’s clients. There is much more to it than that and a lot of it is personal that I will not go into… but I literally gave them my all.
Anyway… the client has decided to sponsor me in my triathlons.
I am actually now a sponsored rider. wow. The thought of being a sponsored rider just gives me goosebumps! I really think that there is a good opportunity for companies to sponsor the likes of us MOPs… not only for racing (after all i have an advantage over the pros/elites in that I am out on the course showing off logos for twice as long and i am going slow enough for people to actually read the logo!!), but more importantly for commuting. I do a lot of commuting on my race bikes and if someone has a flat etc I always stop to help. Hopefully this will benefit my sponsor and show us both as good ambassadors.
I have been given a budget to purchase a bike.
A sizeable budget (in fact I didn’t really have a budget, just get the best bike!)
I had no constraints on how it was spent.
My question is… what would you have chosen?
It is a bit of a dream huh?
So… given all the sexy bikes out there… why have I chosen Planet X?
Here are some of the reasons;
I think they also have a great attitude and history that reflects well with my sponsor. My sponsor likes to go outside of the box; picking a Cervelo/Felt/Trek/BMC etc would have been expected. Instead i have chosen a small company that is doing some remarkable things.
Through my years over on TriTalk, I have built up a great relationship with Dave, Andy and the company; they have shown me almost entirely positives.
Pride. This is something the big names cannot give. This is something that for *me *is unique to PX. My chest is already puffing out in pride at being a PX rider. I can’t explain why… is it the company? is it cos they are British?, is it the team? I think it is all these things and more; wow… i am getting a Stealth and it is just making me grin!
VFM. I can go to my sponsors and tell them I am making the most of their money; they know I will never win a big race, so I think it is respectful to show them I am spending their money wisely and not excessively (err,… kinda)
The bike is actually a PX Stealth Ultimate Power Build. Basically that means that on top of the PX stealth frame you get;
Xentis TTs
Full DuraAce
Ergomo
Stronglight cranks
I have then adjusted it as follows;
- lost the Dugast for Conti Comps (not so fast but for my size they are a sensible adjustment - and all black tubs look way cooler)
- aero bottle
- spesh toupe world champ saddle (naff i know, but love it!)
- KMC Gold chain - i am gangsta
Haven’t ridden it get so lots of work remains… and i wanna do something with that darn ergomo cable (and some cable housing)
(yep… i know the brakes are open… just wanted to get the photos up)
Next step is to get my sponsor’s logos on there; (for this post i am deliberately not listing the sponsor so that they can make the press release to their own target group etc)
hmm… i wonder if i can get my sponsors logo placed on my peaceful tribe top… hmm
I hope you like the photos/bike…
