Put a bike in a new Honda Insight?

The time has come for a new vehicle in the family and me thinks the 2010 Honda Insight fits all my criteria, save one: I am so spoiled with how easy it has been the past five years to travel with my bike inside my Element I am wondering how quick/easy it is to put a bike in the Insight and (1) not foul the interior and (2) still have room for any other crap in the back.

Anyone have a 2010 Insight (NOT the car of the same name that Honda discontinued a couple of years back) have any good setup tips to share?

thanks,
Paul

JC. How’d you decide on the Insight? I never really understood that car. Marginally better gas mileage than the civic, far cry from the Prius. I really wanted to like it, but still need sold.

Now the original Insight, that car is awesome. It tracks your lifetime mpg and my friend’s is currently sitting at 65 mpg.

The Insight had the right combination of room/features, with high mileage (40+) and drove better than the Prius. Also, it’s about 15% cheaper. Add to that I am a bit of a Honda loyalist (driven their cars for 20 years and never been let down by one) made the call for me. With the Element being re-done next year I may have to look at that when the Mrs. will be needing a new ride.

Now, do you have any ideas about my bike question?

Yes, purchase the Odyssey and all your problems will be solved. Best and most functional vehicle for an active lifestyle - bar none.

i’m sort of biased here:

i own both an Odyssey and Jetta tdi; both would be a far better choice than an insight. more room, and flexibility in the Ody and as good/better MPG with better handling, ride, ergos with the Jetta.

i can fit my tri bike in the jetta folding the back seat down, only taking off the front wheel. if i take off both wheels, then i can leave the back seat up.

the oddysey is obviously a super spacious vehicle, gets 20mpg.

I’d suggest a Dodge Ram. Per your requirements:

Easy and quick to put the bike in - VERY
Not foul the interior - No issues
Room for any other crap in the back - I’ve put 2 tons of stone in the back of mine, so I’d day yes.
It also seats 5 comfortably and 6 if need be.

(sorry couldn’t resist)
.

I have an Acura RSX, which would have approximately the same interior room as the new insight. Don’t expect to carry a lot, but with the back seats folded down I can fit a bike with the front wheel off and anything you will need on raceday.

don’t expect to carry 2 bikes inside the vehicle, unless you are very good at jigsaw puzzles and don’t mind the bikes lying on top of each other. If you are sold on the insight, a hitch-mounted carrier would be the best thing.

I’ll give it a shot, thanks. And thanks also for being the first person to actually respond to the question I asked.

I punched in “bike” in their search function and got several pages of hits and some promising thread titles. Fairly certain the answer is somewhere in there.
