Pure insanity

I tried to go to the pool after work the other day (it was closed at 5:30) and there was a sign on the door saying it would be closing “For the Season” on August 12th. What freakin season are they talking about? Does anyone else’s outdoor pool close this early in the year? Mine’s on a Navy base so it’s not like it’s a neighborhood pool that requires neighborhood kids to be lifeguards or anything. I was a bit peeved because I have a pretty small window of opportunity to work out each day, and the closest Navy pool besides that one is about 20min or more away on another base.

i feel your pain… My main pool (xavier) has been closed since may for remodeling until sept. My other pool, st-x closed last wed for a month , they are redoing the deck. i joined the Y. 3 pools. one outside, one lap pool and a “bath” pool. want to go swim and they closed all pools because of lightnening (yes, even the indoor pool). and the lap pool has a weird lap time schedule. i am stuck. I need to figure something out ASAP… what a pain

What is it with pools anyways. It seems pretty simple. Grab a shovel and dig a big hole in the ground. Fill it with water. Treat the water so it doesn’t make people sick. Staff the pool with someone to watch for drowners and someone to put the towels through the washing machine. Charge fees, sit back, and collect cash.

When I lived in RI, the base pool there was like the one you described. Always some project closing the pool down. Re-roofing. Re-decking. Refurbishing the ladies locker room. Plus, all the times a normal person could go swim laps were filled with kids swim lessons, or water aerobics, or whatever. When I was in Athens, the base pool was only open 3 days a week for laps, and only from 0630-0830. Never mind that the base there is essentially a school, and classes all start at 0700. Now I’m in Virginia and it’s hot as a mother, and the only pool on base closes before I generally get done working, and is going to close “for the season” next week.

I’m seriously thinking of grabbing myself a shovel and starting to dig my own big hole… or do you think the Navy might object to me digging a big hole in their base?
