Was wondering if there’s a pump that fits a hed disc or if I need to get an adapter to make it work. My JoeBlow pump is just a little bit too big to fit in there? When I picked it up the guys said a pump should fit in there without an adapter – almost brought my pump for this reason.
Thanks!

Might be your valve length. I’ve noticed the actual “rim” of the disc is quite small and you can get away with running a very short valve stem on it. This in turn gives you more clearance in the cutout for the pump head.
Yes, a shorter valve stem helps; it was kinda weird going back to buying a new “stubby” tube after buying all long-valve tubes the last several years. My cheapo Trek brand pump w/ a plastic head just barely gets in there, but Silca also makes a brass adapter chuck (the infamous ‘crack pipe’), although I hear mixed results about how well it stays on at higher pressure… apparently it still requires 3 hands to do well.
Silca also makes a locking pump head that I have been able to use with an older Zipp disk (very tight fit - unable to clamp fully, but still held) so might be ok on a hed with the larger opening.
Otherwise the standard ‘crack pipe’ will fit, but needs to be held on (one hand or I have seen a wood working clamp used) so you only have one hand free to run the pump.
I’ve had a pain with this. I have a Joe Blow and bought it because someone said the head would fit. It doesn’t. But it’s a great pump anyway and I’ve glad I have it.
I have 2 crack pipes and neither one works for me, but I think it’s because of the particular tires I have…they have a removable valve core and I think the design of that particular valve doesn’t allow a deep enough seat of the valve stem in the crack pipe. So I’m SOL. I’ve decided not to deal with a disc anyway, so I’ll sell it - tire and all and just go to a deep section rim wheel.
Before you give up, just buy the Silica Crack Pipe and hose clamp it to the Joe Blow tubing aka:
This works great for Discs, Wheelcovers, etc… basically anything that you need to fill with small space.
