In terms of publicity… having Lance’s TTX stolen was probably great news for Trek. I can’t imagine how much press that they have gotten out of this. It kind of makes you wonder…
True that you can’t buy publicity like this because I’ve seen it on news outlets that normally don’t even cover any aspect of cycling.
Right, but who that doesn’t follow cycling is going to run out and buy a TTX? I am not sure there is much/ any trickle down to comfort and kids bikes.
Just my thoughts.

Probably none. However, it may help people who were in the bike market for a commuter or cruiser to lean towards Trek, since they saw in the news the great Lance Armstrong rides Trek. Free publicity is still good!

It was on the 2nd page of the main section of the Globe & Mail in Canada yesterday with a big picture of Lance riding the bike in question in the Prologue and a nice story not only of the bike theft, but the comeback as well and how it’s going for Lance at the TOC. I believe, the Globe’s Canadian circ. is about 350,000!! So yes, nice bit of exposure for Trek!

I’m really not very good at reading between the lines. Why don’t you spell it out for us if you have an accusation to make.
That’s really chicken shit saying something like that.
more pub than tom peterson’s stage win, and slightly less than la’s comments about what horner had for dinner. shows you how lame us cycling fans are.
I think the average citizen may be amused to hear Lance’s bike was stolen, but I doubt they have any comprehension of what exactly Trek or TTX is, and I doubt it encourages them to go buy one. And for those of us who are dorks enough to understand, it probably doesn’t influence our purchases one way or the other.
For me, it’s like if a NASCAR car got stolen. I’d be amused to her about it, but it wouldn’t make me want to go buy a Ford (or whatever). And I may recognize the name of the top driver or two, but I couldn’t tell you any more about them.
So in summary, I don’t think this was a marketing ploy by Trek or Astana. I think it was an unfortunate event that happened to a famous person, so it makes the news.
I thought there was no such thing as bad publicity? (.)(.)

Wow! A four letter word!
It kind of makes me wonder what the next paint scheme LA will have on his next TTX since this one got a lot of publicity. But I guess that doesn’t matter now since his bike was found.
Wow… you really did misread that one.
We’ll never know but if this was some subversive action to garner publicity it was as successful as it was underhanded. A virtual *Coupe d’ Etat. *
(I don’t get to use that phrase very often so when I do I love to take advantage of it)
