Public school no longer allowed to say the Lord's Prayer over the PA. Cheerleaders fight back - score another win for religious freedom!

That’s right! Suck it, atheists!

Don’t sound like a 'Murican to me …

The captains, Asia Canada and Alley Meyers, told Elisabeth Hasselbeck that prayer and faith means a lot to them and their community.

Uh, if you’re recasting normality as a “win” Christians must really be desperate lol

Look, I’m an Atheist, and if during the moment of silence, these fine folks wanted to gather to say a prayer, they were well within their rights. No concerns. Just don’t push it on me over the PA, or I’m going to get angry and piss a few people off. That said, is it really that hard to pray to yourself during a moment of silence? It’s not illegal or anything, but it seems disrespectful to take up an inclusive moment of silence with your particular flavor of mindless chanting. If I was there, I’d probably start chanting “Hail Satan” or something offensive.

Santa Fe Independent School District v. Doe is relevant here - http://en.wikipedia.org/…_School_Dist._v._Doe

That said, if there’s a non-religious cheerleader, or a Hindu/Jew/Muslim cheerleader who didn’t want to participate, what would happen to her? We all know there are social repercussions for not being Christian or being in the minority. If only the same people treated those not taking part in such prayers as equals.

It was tongue-in-cheek. Barry is a well-self-professed Atheist. So much so that his practice of the Atheist faith far exceeds that of even the most zealous Christians in the LR, making him, ironically, the greatest faith practicing denizen of the LR.

“Our community needs God in it, especially at football games.”

Yes, I’ve heard that is where we find god most often.

So they want to say a prayer over Pennsylvania?

To be fair, there are a handful of atheists on the board who have a closer relationship with the God of atheism than I do. Hell, I don’t even go to Atheist church most Sundays.

My stance on it: lead over the PA system? No……that’s completely inappropriate. The cheerleaders and the crowd want to say it out loud, together? Sure. whatever. I don’t really care.

I just find the way the whole story is spun to be amusing, and sadly ironic. They aren’t aloud to say it over the PA anymore, so these cheerleader protested by saying it anyway, and the crowd joined in. Score one for religious freedom!!!

Because….well, you know……the whole point of the ACLU is to prevent people from praying, and this town stuck it to them. Yeah!!!

Next topic: War on Christmas! Atheists will be waging yet another war on Christmas this year by including the festivals of other cultures along with Christmas. Ahh, yes, “inclusion” is a figurative hand grenade. = ^ )

LOL. It took me a second to get that.

These girls apparently need someone to pray for them. No H.S cheerleader with a name like Asia Canada ever ended up anywhere but on the stripper pole.

When I’m playing a violent sport like football, I want all the help I can get. God, Jesus, Allah it dosn’t matter provided they all want a safe and fair game on the field of play. What I don’t want is Satan who obviously is fine with broken bones and cheating.

At least it’s FoxNews, so you know it’s fair and balanced…

If god is good enough for John Kerry, it’s good enough for me…

Secretary of State John Kerry said it was the United States’ biblical “duty” to confront climate change at home and abroad in “Muslim-majority” nations during a speech Wednesday.
“Our faiths are inextricably linked on any number of things that we must confront and deal with in policy concepts today. Our faiths are inextricably linked on the environment. For many of us, respect for God’s creation also translates into a duty to protect and sustain his first creation, Earth, the planet,” Kerry said.
“Confronting climate change is, in the long run, one of the greatest challenges that we face, and you can see this duty or responsibility laid out in Scriptures clearly, beginning in Genesis. And Muslim-majority countries are among the most vulnerable. Our response to this challenge ought to be rooted in a sense of stewardship of Earth, and for me and for many of us here today, that responsibility comes from God,” he continued.

Did you say “cheerleaders”!?

That’s not fair, she could also have a lucrative career as a porn star.

And prison, and rehab.

I really do not care one way or the other regarding atheists or christians, but, it always seems that the christians are always required to be “more tolerant” than all of the “offended” non christian groups…just an observation.

Yes, the poor oppressed Christians. They can’t have mention of god on government buildings, money, pledge of allegiance …

Yeah, you would think this country was founded on a Christian belief or something …

You know what, you’re largely right. While our nation was not founded as a “Christian Nation” in the literal, theocratic sense, it was founded largely on Christian Morals.

…and thankfully, with the founders’ help, we don’t have that level of ignorance anymore.

Yes, I agree that many of the moral standards in place at this countries’ founding were Christian, and that’s why when our country was founded women had no rights, slavery was legal, execution was a very popular form of discipline, and many other things which are now illegal were perfectly acceptable, even encouraged. Fortunately, our founding fathers had the good sense not to found us as a theocracy, but rather to found us a secular state, and in doing so allowed us to question our actions and provide rights to citizens which Christianity bitterly seeks to deny.
