We have a new toy in the house and i was hoping to put it to good use. Can anyone recommend any good PT workouts specifically geared towards a longer effort like HIM and IM? I have been using a CT and have done some good early season LT workouts but now its time to work on distance.
I already have a good idea where my CP numbers are since i have been working with power all year now but i would like to continue to improve. Also, i would like to do some road racing later in the season.
Thanks
PS. I wasnt using Abv. to be cute, it just worked out that way.
When I got my PT, I got a training plan from cruciblefitness.com (Adv HIM w/power). It has been well worth the price. I would have wasted a lot of the potential of the PT without it. A personalized coach with experience training with power would be even better, but not in the budget.
Using the CF plan, I went from 4:45->4:30 in a 1/2. YRMV.
For half IM races, one of my key workouts is 30-60 minute efforts at about 90% of my threshold power, which is about what I shoot for in the race. The staple workout to raise your threshold is 2x20 minutes at or slightly above it. I take 15-20 minutes recovery between those. That’s my year round core ride.
