So the wife snagged one for me for my bday. I had been wanting one knowing that it would be the main console system for 8 years or so and quickly snagged a few games I already had on the xbox 360 - Battlefield 4 (have been a fan of this series for about a decade), Diablo 3 (same deal…actually probably more like 15 years). Glad I picked both up as Diablo is always fun to pick up, and Battlefield’s gameplay/graphics are a huge step up from the 360 version. Finally I grabbed “The Last of Us”.
Got to say I had heard about “The Last of Us” but had no idea how great it is. I"m generally into games I can play multiplayer in as that’s how I can rationalize the spend but this game has got me hooked.
Anything else out there worth checking out for PS4? I’m a lifelong Tolkien nerd so Shadow of Morder looks cool…but no multiplayer.
Shadows of Mordor is amazing!
Might check out the Uncharted series as well.
Mordor is good, but I haven’t been blown away. It’s structured very much like Assassin’s Creed or any of the Arkham games, and plays very much like the Arkham games. Might as well be Batman with a sword.
Destiny has been ok, but not the awesomeness that was generally hoped for. The multiplayer is kind of weak, the rewards system is weak, the campaign is weak. It looks great, and plays well, but there’s nothing special.
I hear ya. ACreed is one of those games I admire but don’t really care to play. Same deal with Arkham, played the first one through primarily because my wife loved watching it but I did not really care for the gameplay.
Have been on the bubble with Destiny but keep hearing the multiplayer is not all that great.
Next year should be a much better year for games (for me anyhow) if any of you play Battlefield or Diablo on ps4 let me know.
If you’re a baseball fan the only game I buy every year is MLB The Show.

Than you may not like Mordor. The fighting mechanic is almost identical to the Arkham games. The setup is like both Arkham and Creed, where you unlock a tower in each area, which lets you see all the side missions and collectibles, then you work through those for upgrades while you also hit the occasional story mission. Don’t get me wrong, it looks great, the story is ok and if you’re a fan of the LOTR and Hobbit series it’s probably a must-have. The nemesis system is interesting as well, because the minor bosses remember you if you fail to kill them first time through, enemies rank up as you move through the story, etc.
Destiny multiplayer is not that great. There seem to be about a half dozen maps, with 5 or maybe 6 mp game modes. You get regular deathmatch, control (like headquarters in COD), and a couple of others, none of which seem all that great. One of the key things to Destiny is ranking up your armor and weapons, but everyone is leveled off on armor and health in multiplayer. I would say the mp is ok, just not anything great. It’s like they tried to make a single player / role playing / MMO / FPS / multi-player, and shove it all together, and it just isn’t as fantastic as promised.
