My Ortho doc recommended PRP therapy (besides 4 weeks rest) for a partially torn quad tendon were it attaches to the knee. There is a bit of calcification and thickening of the tendon as well.
Has anyone had this therapy and what were the results…If I decide to do it, my insurance might not cover it and I’m out some big bucks, I’ll know more in a few days. A forum search didn’t come back with anyone having it used for quad tears.
How serious is this injury? has anyone out there gone through this?
Thanks
Ron W.
I had a PRP injection on a torn hamstring. I had done several sessions with a PT where he scraped the muscle and the results weren’t happening and so I did the PRP injection. Insurance didn’t cover mine either, but slowly it has been getting better. Not as fast as I would have liked, but there is definite improvement over just the PT. It hurt like hell when he did it and for a few days after, but with rest it felt better. With me, I felt i had done all i could with PT, so this was the next step. Good luck.
I just had it done in my knee and posted a video last week on slowtwitch.
I’m only three weeks in but am amazed with the results. I’m running pain free which I haven’tbeen able to do in a long time. The best thing is that I’m not always thinking and stressing about my knee because it feels so good. I say go for it.
I saw your video and found it pretty interesting.
I have the therapy scheduled for Thursday, just haven’t gotten the billing squared away yet with my health care provider.
Plus I have 2nd opinion set for Monday and see what this Ortho doc says.
