Lately many studies have reported that protein (amino acids in particular?) aid endurance and reduce muscle breakdown when taken before/during/after exercise. I’m wondering if soy protein or whey protein is better to use? I know in the past someone mentioned that milk-derived protein is a bad idea when doing high intensity exercise. Comments?
I’m not sure how strong the literature is regarding protein intake before or during exercise. After exercise, sure. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, there’s no advantage to taking amino acids per se over protein. (In fact I think small fragments of 2-3 amino acids are absorbed better in the gut than individual amino acids)
I think either soy or whey protein would be fine for post-exercise recovery. Whey is popular due to fast absorption, I’ve never used soy myself.
