Pro's Training Schedule/Plan

Sorry if this has already been posted. Does anyone have a link of some pro’s typical training schedule/block? After reading Macca’s book, apparently he doesn’t train as hard as some other pro’s but his outline looked very, very high mileage/intense.

I just want to see some other examples.

Thanks.

A pros training is very specifc. People would be surprised at the difference in paces from recovery to the more specific days. Every workout has a purpose and recovery is crucial. Even a 3-4 hour ride can be considered recovery depending on pace. The age grouper tends to stay in gray zones more and do the easy runs harder than they should, and this prevents them from doing the hard runs as hard as they should.

Also remember that these athletes have genetic gifts that allow them to train, and race at high levels. just following one specific pro’s plan will not guarantee success even for another pro. Each athlete needs to know their body and work to find a program that optimizes their success froom both a physical as well as mental standpoint.

search under “specialized day in the life” on you tube for some cool videos on several pro’s
.

out of curiousity… is that Paulo’s training plan? or the plan for his athletes that he coaches?

It all seems like so much.

Regarding the specialized video’s, I have seen those, but I feel like the athletes choose one very hard day to be filmed. I am looking more for a typical week/month.

I watched one of them - can’t remember maybe Frodo’s and I would disagree. It looked fairly standard for what an ITU athlete has to do 8 days outa 10.

TJ Tollakson has his plan posted…but I am too lazy to find it just google him.

Not sure if any other pros are that transparent about their plan.

You’d think someone in academia would be better at citing quotes.

Pretty nice videos. I liked Whitfield’s video. Was exactly like me except for the intensity of the workouts. I be much slower!

I just checked out your goals for the year, and being a younger guy who had success at that distance (goal race) while working part time I thought I might be able to shed some light.

I have NEVER done a day as hard as the either the Tim Don or Jan Frodeno filmed days that I can remember. However if a bike company like Orbea was to film me for a day I probably would.

I can’t give away everything I do out of respect for my coach, but I use his program and the example here is very similar to what a typical week I did last year.

I like to race one half ironman every month-ish, and I start to taper about 6 days out and it usually takes me about a week to recover afterwards. I am a huge believer in adequate recovery after longer half ironman type races and usually will not do anything long or intense during the week after.

Things will change a bit this year as I have been fortunate to be able to work a lot less, but that is all up to my coach Kevin Cutjar. This leads into my next point…

My best advice is to find a coach you trust and not worry about what other guys are doing. Just get the work done.

If you have any specific questions or if anyone else does, just ask and I’ll try my best to answer them.

Time to go hit the snow for a run,
